Hello everyone!! This months meeting was held yesterday the 7th!! Matt from McCartney the engineers for the street project was there and he showed us three lighting option. We took a vote and now have a street light chosen!! We need to still pick out the actual pole design and the fitter (piece between light and pole).
He also showed us some options on the stamped concrete which he stated would be the tree lawn area from curb to about 5-6 ft.
We kept Matt busy and he left with quite a few things to check on for us:
He is going to check to see if gas lights would be an option
He will be checking to see what type of glow the electric light will be putting out. A bright white or more subdued yellow.
He will get prices on possibly doing pavers and cement like what was done by the bandstand as an option instead of the stamped concrete.
We did come up with some issues for the sidewalks. The funding only goes to the right of way and in some cases that does not go all the way to the building. We will need to look at talking to the individual building owners to see if they are willing to pay for the little bit of sidewalk that would not be replaced if we want this to be totally uniform.
We then talked about the icecream social:
There was a couple people from the historical society there and this is what they need to split thie profits evenly:
2 days prior we need approx. 4-6 people to help set tables and chairs at old fire station. We will need a pick up to move tables from church to station.
The night before social we need 4-6 people to help cook the shredded chicken, baked beans and sloppy joe's-this is done at the new fire station.
The potatoe salad they buy and add some to it. They make 2 roasters of each of the hot foods.
WE ALSO NEED PIES BAKED AND DONATED!!
July 4th we need a couple people to help reheat food at new firestation and then transport it to old!
Then on July 4th We need at least 5 workers to help serve!
After we need 4-6 workers to help with clean up which included taking down tables and chairs back and taking roasters to firestation and cleaning them!
We need to get these numbers of people to be able to split the profits!!
Contact Brad Preston he has the list!!
Bridget from RCDG was there and discussed the program focal buy local and handed out some window stickers and pamphlets to promote this.
She also discussed the "Cash Mob" progrm and that they wanted a retail business from Bellville area to do.
Cash Mobs are planned monthly for Richland Business' with retail being done on the first Thursday of month and restaurants on the 3rd Thursday!
I believe Wade Gardens is our retail spot for June 7th!
I have contacted Brett for Brumby's for the restaurant in either July or August!
I believe that is all for this meeting.
Our next meeting will be Monday 6/4/2012 @ 7Pm but will be held at BNOC!
The group met at Brumby's, March 5th, at 7:00. Brian McCartney of K.E. McCartney Engineering was there. McCartney is the
consulting engineer for the Bellville streetscape.
Because of timing issues, the construction of the street scape will not start until the spring of 2013.
We discussed trees, lighting, stamped concrete, and the moving of the curb for a portion of Main Street.
The group thought that perhaps downtown will look better with fewer trees. Brian will look at the present trees, and mark some of them for possible removal.
The group also recommended two types of light poles. One a "pendent"
light, to keep light out of the upper story window, and another to be similar to the existing lights around the village offices.
The group also recommended three types of stamped concrete. Either "old brick" in a herringbone or straight pattern, or "cobblestone."
After a quick trip outside, the group recommended that the curbs on Main Street remain the same.
Bridget McDaniel of the Richland County Development Group (RCDG) was in attendance and spoke about grants. The Richland County Foundation has decided that all of their grants will be allocated through RCDG. We talked
about perhaps getting a matching grant from RCDG to continue the street scape up around the bandstand (sidewalks and lighting.) With this in mind the group thought it would be a good idea to change our thoughts about
fundraising this year from lighting the bridge to raising money for a matching grant for the steet scape. It would obviously be cheaper to do the work around the Bandstand while the contractor is working on the rest of Main St.
Any corrections or additions to this will be appreciated.

Bellville Minutes 1/12
Dave Griffon stated we should know soon on the grant from OPWC (Ohio Public Works Commission) for the streetscape project.
We then heard from Tom Wade who put together some pictures on different ways to light up the bridge and it was decided to have some estimates together on what it would cost to light up the bridge. I will be working on that between now and the next meeting. Thanks so much Tom the pictures helped everyone visualize much better on what can be done with the bridge!! Dave also came up with a nice idea on choosing how to light the bridge. He suggested we choose maybe the top 2 design ideas and then put it in the local paper and have people vote. I think this is a nice way to get the whole community involved.
Karen Smith seemed to be pretty busy since our last meeting she had quite a bit to offer:
Karen stated she had contacted Westerville on their street lights and they were nice enough to send her quite a bit of info on the contractors etc...on theirs. I think we all seem to agree on the lights being downcast so as not to shine into the apartments along Main Street. Bret seemed very happy with that idea!
Karen also suggested the possibility of seeing if the bank would be interested in possibly taking over their sign for our town sign or sharing it with us. She stated she will be contacting them soon.
We then focused on possible fundraisers.
Some ideas were:
Brad Preston suggested a duck race on the river that we can either start or finish at the bridge. He has a contact who has done this and will see about borrowing or renting the ducks. We would of course need volunteers to help sell the ducks and also be at the start and finish lines and along the race course to collect the ducks.
We also had a suggestion from the Beal's on postcards of different buildings in town that we can have made up and then sell. This could be photographs or maybe even drawings.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday the 13th of February @ 7PM @ Brumby's.
Don't forget our homework!!
1) Think of fundraising ideas.
2) What we want to do on Main Street by Memorial Day
Ex. Clean up, planting of flowers etc...
Well I hope everyone has a wonderful January and I will see you all next month!!
